I joined Radio Calderdale in 1986 and presented a weekly music show for eight years. In 1991 I became the P.A. announcer at the Shay for Halifax Town matches until 1998. In 1992 Radio Calderdale began to broadcast live commentary of the Shaymen’s home games. I’ve been
commentating from the Shay ever since. Following our move to the East
Stand, our broadcasts have been able to convey a more ‘live match day experience’ with the atmosphere of the crowd around us.
Having retired in 2017, after spending forty years as a teacher of Modern
Languages, I volunteered to take on the role of Membership Manager for
Radio Calderdale. Away from the Shay, I have a great passion for
cinema and I collect movie soundtracks (on vinyl or CD). I also have
quite a large Blu-ray and DVD collection. In 2019 I started to present a
weekly show again: ‘Movie Magic’ which showcases music used in films.
I also spend time buying and selling on Ebay. I live with my wife in
Rishworth and we have two grown-up children.
