I have been with Radio Calderdale for just over seven years. I have had some involvement in external functions and request shows but my main involvement is as a presenter. I present a Friday evening live show – 8 to 10pm. This started off as The Friday Fusion – bringing together Jazz, Rock, Blues, Soul and Funk, but changed to Close Enough for Jazz to reflect the balance, which is eclectic and out to interest and engage.
I have worked in education for a long time – hours and roles have changed but I am still putting a lot in and getting a lot out of what I do.
I am enthusiastic about cycling as an activity and a sport, a film fan, a keen reader and promoter of Rory Gallagher’s legacy with a feature in each show. Amongst my jazz favourites are Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers, Miles Davis and Thelonious Monk, but there are many more to enjoy and the eclectic element is never far away with artists like Sly and the Family Stone. Nina Simone, Cassandra Wilson, Rosie Vela and Jimi Hendrix. Searching, exploring and selecting tunes for the playlist for each show and so for our listeners is a source of endless pleasure and satisfaction.
