Following a secondment to Radio Leeds in 1987, which I thoroughly enjoyed; I wondered how I could continue my media interest. After very little thought I decided to join the local hospital radio, then based in the old General Hospital. As a keen sportsperson, I decided to marry the two interests and specialise in sports presentation and commentary. I trained and joined the sports team presenting a Saturday afternoon show of sport, music and results. This included live match commentary from the Shay and it was not long before I cut my teeth with match comments at the Shay and the then Friday nights second team matches at Thrum Hall progressing up to full match commentary and even match day announcer
The composition of the department is always in constant flux and people have come trained and even moved on to Radio 5 Live. Today we as a team endeavour to feature all the home football and rugby matches, both now from the Shay and as a group of experienced broadcasting members I believe that we present a lively local broadcast for you if you are unfortunate to be hospitalised.
If you have a passion for sport then you are welcome to join us at the Calderdale Royal.
