Ian Buckley

I have been involved in Rugby League as player/coach/administrator/commentator since 1979. I played primarily for Bradford University and then had trials with Dewsbury RLFC, but a serious knee injury halted my dreams of pro-rugby. I coached Bradford University, Yorkshire Universities, English Universities and was the assistant coach to the full British Students side which took part in the first Student World Cup in New Zealand. For 18 months I was assistant coach at Keighley RLFC – pre “Cougar” times. I was also involved in the National Conference League on the Management Committee, acting as an independent club representative.

I first got involved in commentating for HWD Hospital radio, covering Batley and Dewsbury games, before “coming home” to Radio Calderdale (born in Halifax, and Halifax RLFC were always my club).

We even used to commentate on Friday night A Team games from Thrum Hall.

It is now my pleasure to be one of the commentators bringing you live coverage of the home Halifax RLFC games from the Shay
